Quiltmaker's Alaska Block Party @Sea

Sunday June 8th
AM:  Part 1;  PM: Part 2

Monday June 9th
Tuesday June 10th
Friday June 13th

Janome sewing machines will be provided. There will be at least three rotary mats for sharing by participants in my classroom. Should you bring a personal mat, one that measures at least 10" on each side will be sufficient for my classes. There will be electric irons to share. Know that we are prohibited from bringing any sort of electric iron.  A wooden iron is small and lightweight so bring yours if you have one.

Spray starch and some freezer paper are handy but not required as aerosol cans may not be permitted on flights and freezer paper can be bulky. I use freezer paper as a mini design wall and organizer. I iron patches to it for a mock-up. It keeps me organized and I'm less likely to drop a patch on the floor. A couple of large sheets (folded for travel) are handy.

As a rule, I keep the supply lists minimal; our classes are half day. I've asked for fabric enough to master the process. This will keep your baggage light and make for a leisure workshop. I find it sensible to cut the majority of  fabric for a quilt at home after reaching an understanding of the project from the class especially since mine are technique-driven.

All Block Party Supply Lists, including mine, are linked from here
My supply lists are standardized for one-day classes. I have not created specialized cruise supply lists but will make any notes below. For our cruise I will supply any required photocopies.

Any updates to the cruise supply lists will be posted on this "page" so please check back. There is a comment area below; please take advantage of it to share your thoughts and questions. If I add additional information it will be as comments so they will become 'date stamped.'

See you at sea!
Anita
**Supply List Notes
  • My book, Rotary Cutting Revolution is optional, not required
  • You do not need a design wall or fleece
Fabric for the Xcentric workshop should not be pre-laundered nor starched so as not to skew the stripe.  Fabric squares  for all other workshop blocks should be cut from starched fabric.  Note the bottom of the Xcentric supply list for our Half-Day workshop supplies

The No-Waste Windmill fabric requirement (for our three hour class) is
(4) 8.5" squares of different fabrics for Windmills
(5) 8.5" squares of a same fabric for Background
There is very little cutting done in class so sharing provided rotary mats will work out. We will complete a nine block Windmill sampler

Save space by bringing 8" squares cut from starched fabric for Smashing Squares-on-Point. The squares needn't be perfectly cut or torn but each side should measure at least 8" Six squares would be more than sufficient for the workshop but if you will be sewing outside of class, bring additional squares.

Craftsy Notes
  • This is about my optional book "Rotary Cutting Revolution."I teach both Anita's Arrowhead (which you may know from Quiltmaker) and the Two-Color Pineapple online for Craftsy. This online class includes, as a bonus, a PDF version of my book, Rotary Cutting Revolution. As a Craftsy instructor, I am privileged to share this link  to a very discounted price.
You'd have the ability to download the book PDF to a laptop or iPad. I'm told that an iPad requires a separate app to save PDFs. I mention Craftsy because you might appreciate an opportunity to save baggage weight and besides, it's a great class.

You're probably aware that internet service is available on board; it will be pricey so you wouldn't want to visit Craftsy while at sea.
