Panama Cruise

Panama Canal Cruise 2014

These are the classes I will be teaching:
Anita's Arrowhead
No Patience Block
Old Italian Block Quilt
Two-Color Pineapple Quilt
Self-Mitered Log Cabin

Cruising With Road to California / World Of Quilts Travel will provide Janome sewing machines and limited rotary mats for participants. If you choose to bring a mat for yourself, you can get by with a mat at least 10" on each side except for the No Patience block which needs a mat at least 12" on each side.

Spray starch and some freezer paper are handy but not required as aerosol cans may not be permitted on flights and freezer paper can be bulky. I use freezer paper as a mini design wall and organizer. I iron patches to it for a mock-up. It keeps me organized and I'm less likely to drop a patch on the floor. A couple of large sheets (folded for travel) are handy. Freezer paper is already included in the Two-Color Pineapple kits.

I've kept the supply lists minimal. I've asked for fabric enough to master the process. This will keep your baggage light and make for a leisure workshop. I find it sensible to cut the majority of  fabric for a quilt at home after one has an understanding of the project from the class.

Any updates to the cruise supply lists will be posted on this "page" so please check back. There is a comment area below; please take advantage of it to share your thoughts and questions. If I add additional information it will be as a comments because they are 'date stamped.'

See you at sea!

Anita

Updates

  • A wooden iron is small and lightweight so bring yours if you have one
  • Kit fees if applicable  (Self-Mitered Log Cabin $5; Two-Color Pineapple $5; Old Italian Block $5) may be paid to me on board. (cash or check please)
Anita's Arrowhead
  • Fabric and Preparation: Bring 9" squares of fabric cut from starched fabric. The size (9") was omitted on the supply list.
  • For your reference, if you are not bringing a copy of "Rotary Cutting Revolution" along, you might print-out and pack this PDF
Craftsy Notes

I teach the Arrowhead and the Two-Color Pineapple online for Craftsy who have included, as a bonus, a PDF version of my book, Rotary Cutting Revolution.  As a Craftsy instructor, I am able to share this link to a very discounted price.

Some of you might benefit from an overview of your upcoming class, seeing me demonstrating it, or, be interested in it for a post cruise review. You'll be able to download the book PDF to a laptop or iPad. I'm told that an iPad requires a separate app to save PDFs.

You're probably aware that internet service is available on board; it will be pricey so you wouldn't want to visit Craftsy while at sea.

March 27, 2014
By chance I came across a lengthy review of a cruise on our ship, the Westerdam, brimming with excellent photos. I now have an idea of just about everything aboard except our classrooms. Certainly the itinerary and entertainment will differ from our trip.

I had a check up from my dentist today. The office is on 49th street here in Manhattan. It was cold outside so I ducked into Saks on 49th street intending to cut through the store, stay warm, and exit out 50th street. I hesitated, made a beeline for the elevator and half an hour later exited at 50th street with a swim suit. My miracle purchase.  If you only knew :-)
